Motorola Software Update downloads FULL update to check if an Update is Required!

If you ever wondered why it takes so long for Motorola's Windows update tool to tell you if your phone needs updating its because it first downloads the updates! Obviously Motorola have never heard of versioning, CRCs or MD5 hashes.

After having weird networking issues on my phone and find the way software updates are checked, I no longer doubt those that say Motorola make good hardware but absolutely suck at software.

My phone didn't need an update (obviously 2.2 Froyo hasn't been out long enough for Motorola to feel the need to grace us with an update even though the Milestone 2 already has it...) and this is the main part of the log:

12/07/10 12:05:47 [Device ID: 0] Start Task (2 steps): Downloading Firmware files
12/07/10 12:17:40 [Device ID: 0] Ending TASK: Downloading Firmware files
12/07/10 12:17:40 [Device ID: 0] Task succeeded: Downloading Firmware files
12/07/10 12:17:40 STATUS: DownloadFirmware finished!
